Cutting up some beautiful red, crabby apples for liqueur. For next winter, to keep the flu at bay ;)

Post-flood

The sun is shining, the air cool, on this summer morning. I have grown accustomed to the ever-present sound of the sump pump, the gurgle and gush of water. Coffee cup in hand, I survey my soggy kingdom. So very thankful and grateful, in the wake of near disaster. It begins to dawn... something not.. quite .. right. Why does that tree look like that?? A short, wet, flip-floppy walk, reveals the ground is so saturated, the tree can no longer stand in the quagmire, it is slowly giving up... falling over - poor tree! I believe we can build something to prop it up until the ground becomes firm once again. Still grateful! :D

What a beautiful evening!! 62 degrees, the air fresh from recent rain, with just a hint of flowery perfume. I just enjoyed a cup of tea, on the front steps. Entertained by two bats, performing their aerial ballet.

Sorry Fans, it's been a long time, but we're back - :)
So much has happened, and some of that is just too unpleasant to share, so onward and upward...
It is finally spring!! New chicks are hatching and we have a batch of Serama eggs from Laura Castle going into the incubator at midnight!! We have flowers on a couple of apple and peach trees, hopefully it won't snow on them this year. It is 80 degrees today but we have a winter storm settling in over the week-end, it should be just above freezing here, looks like we will miss the snow-woot!
Stay tuned for other exciting, new adventures.

Quick update

Busy week here at the farm, started out with snow in the forecast, but thankfully, we never saw any. It was very cold, but is warming nicely as we go through the week.
We now have 13 regular baby chickens and two Serama babies! By George, I think we've got it. We should be selling our own chicken by August. Plenty of eggs for our own table and for hatching. I am so happy to have all the organic eggs I could possible want. We've made Quiche twice, and eaten eggs for dinner, once! We've even given away just over a dozen.
One of the chickens that was attacked, has now laid her 3rd egg. She's all grown up and settled in her new home nicely. Hopefully the other two will start soon. We just need about 60 more to be ready for the height of summer market. -lol
We have started a Facebook page, it is NOT just like having your own personal page. But we will get the kinks worked out soon( I hope). Like us at: https://www.facebook.com/TasteAndSeeFarm
The rest of the week is filled with a trip to Pennsylvania, helping at Farmer's Market, and the usual Chickeny chores.
We are looking forward to a quieter week next week, so stay tuned for posts and pics.

Take care, and have a lovely week!

New Life

There is nothing so life-affirming as new babies! We have two new chicks and several eggs, due to hatch this week.
